CARNATIC ELECTRONIC MUSIC

Carnatic melody,
played live on synthesizers.

Sapta is an Indian electronic music act that builds Carnatic and South Indian melody into synthesizers and hardware, and plays it live.

Sapta was founded in Paris in 2007 by Chennai-born composer and producer Marti Bharath, and is now based in Goa. The sound starts from Carnatic melody and ends on a dancefloor: Carnatic and South Indian phrasing are written into synth lines, hardware sequences and live drums, then mixed live on stage.

The ROOTS trilogy is the clearest statement of it. ROOTS (July 2026) is a temple journey in seven stages, from origin to emergence. ROOTS : CIRCUITRY (7 November 2026) goes outward with seven tracks for seven places across India. ROOTS : A Global Generation follows on 7 March 2027.

Marti Bharath also heads Electronic Music Production at KM Music Conservatory in Chennai, and has scored films including the Tamil feature Aadai and Netflix's Friday Night Plan. Hear the full catalogue on the music page, read the press coverage, or see the live formats.
